Alternate for Square to
Round
Information Required: (Include insulation in
measurements) Turn height, square
dimensions, round dimensions
Step 1: Draw a plan view and letter as
shown. Mark the true height on the right
vertical line.
Step 2: Trisect the bottom right quarter
circle into equal parts and label.
Step 3: Set dividers at point A and point 1
and swing an arc from the base line to the
right vertical line. Do the same for point 2.
Points 1 and 4 intersect as do points 2 and
3.
Step 4: Set dividers at point S and point 4
and transfer to the horizontal line going
from bottom right point A to the left. Label
the points on the horizontal line as shown
Step 5: Draw lines from the apex (true
height point) to all points on the horizontal
line. These will be the slant heights.
Step 6: For the stretch-out draw a line the
exact length of a square side and label both
points A.
Step 7: From the plan view, set dividers at
the apex and points 1-4 on the horizontal
line. Transfer these points to the layout
from both points A to an intersecting point
on the layout to from point 1 on the layout.
Step 8: Using a second pair of dividers, take
a set from 1 to 2 on the quarter circle of the
plan view and on the layout draw arcs to
both sides of point 1.
Step 9: From the plan view, set dividers at
the apex and point 2-3 on the horizontal
line and transfer them to the layout from
both A points to intersect with the last arcs
shown.
Step 10: Do the same to obtain points 3 and
4 on the layout.
Step 11: From points A, draw arcs to either
side using half the distance of a square side.
Step 12: From the plan view set dividers at
the apex the S-4 point and the 4 points on
the layout draw intersecting arcs to the last
arcs drawn. These points will be pint S on
the layout.
Step 13: Connect all the points to form half
the fitting.
Step 14: Add for laps and notches where
required.
