Six Division Method for

Orange Peel Gores

Information Required: diameter of the tank,

radius of the tank, circumference of the

tank, width of the gore heel, number of

gores required – find by trial and error and

central angle of one gore.

Step 1: Divide the radius and the height into

six equal parts and label.

Step 2: Join like-numbers to form curve of

the tank top; 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc.

Step 3: Divide the tank top curve into six

equal parts and extend the lines to the base

line, and label as shown.

Step 4: To find the central angle, divide the

number of gores required into the 360

degrees and then divide the central angle in

half. Place this measurement on line 1 as

shown.

Step 5: Add a ½” bead and crimp allowance

to the base line.

Step 6: For the stretch-out, draw a

horizontal line and use the division

measurement from Step 3 to draw a

stretch-out. Number the lines.

Step 7: Take the measurements from the

bead and crimp line to the central angle line

and transfer to the corresponding

numbered lines of the stretch0out. Connect

all the points to form the pattern for the

gores. Add lap allowance to the heel,

usually 4-6”
