Layout for a Cone or

Taper

Information required: Large diameter, small

diameter, length of fitting

Step 1: Draw a 90-degree angel and where

they intersect will be point A.

Step 2: From point A mark half the ODI of

the smaller diameter on the horizontal line,

this will be point B.

Step 3: Extend a vertical line up from point

B

Step 4: From point A mark half the ODI of

the larger diameter on the horizontal line.

This is point C.

Step 5: With the dividers set at the true

length of the fitting, use point C as a

temporary apex and swing an intersecting

arc on vertical line B to form point D.

Step 6: From point C draw a line through

point D to a point on vertical line A to form

an apex point.

Step 7: Set the dividers at the apex and

point D and swing a large arc, and do the

same to point C and the apex.

Step 8: Divide the circumference at the

large part of the taper by 12 and draw a 13

point walk out on the large arc (12 for the

fitting and 1 for the lap allowance) Add for

taps and crimp where required.
