Semi Elliptical Head

Segments

Dims Required: OD & OC of head seg width,

side & end laps, # of segments, seg length,

weld to tangent (tan line).

Seg Width: Divide OC by an even # equally

divisible by 4, eg. 40, 44, 48. These would be the

number of segs. The resulting math is seg width.

1. Draw the working drawing (side view). Start

with a center line then place 1/2 the

diameter on each side. Use roughly 1/4

diameter to find the tan line (bottom of

where the curve beins).

2. Divide into equally spaced parts and label.

3. Project lines from division marks to the center

line and measure.

4. Use the seg width formula to determine the

width @ each division. Heel width X R1
