Required Information
- Heel and Throat measurements
Formulas and Measurements
- Add 3/4" to the Heel measurement and 3/8" to the Throat measurement Draw a 90 degree angle with the vertical line to the left side Take the Heel measurement plus 3/4" and divide by 2 and mark this number on the vertical line from the base line.
- Take the Throat measurement plus 3/8" and divide by 2 and mark this number on the vertical line Find the exact center of both points and draw a semi-circle from this point as shown in Figure 1.
- Trisect this semi-circle into six equal parts and label as shown Draw 90 degree lines up from the Base Line to the points on the 1/2 circle Divide the circumference by twice the number of equally divided parts of the semi-circle and draw the Stretch-out for the gore pattern as in Number all the lines of the stretch-out as shown Take measurements from the base line to numbered points on the 1/2 circle and transfer to corresponding numbered lines on the Stretch-out Connect all the points on the stretch-out to form the gore pattern.
Procedure
- Step 1
Obtain Heel and Throat measurements using the Machinist Figure Method or from a Miter Chart. Add 3/4" to the Heel measurement and 3/8" to the Throat measurement
- Step 2
Draw a 90 degree angle with the vertical line to the left side
- Step 3
Take the Heel measurement plus 3/4" and divide by 2 and mark this number on the vertical line from the base line. Take the Throat measurement plus 3/8" and divide by 2 and mark this number on the vertical line
- Step 4
Find the exact center of both points and draw a semi-circle from this point as shown in Figure 1. Trisect this semi-circle into six equal parts and label as shown
- Step 5
Draw 90 degree lines up from the Base Line to the points on the 1/2 circle
- Step 6
Divide the circumference by twice the number of equally divided parts of the semi-circle and draw the Stretch-out for the gore pattern as in
- Step 7
Number all the lines of the stretch-out as shown
- Step 8
Take measurements from the base line to numbered points on the 1/2 circle and transfer to corresponding numbered lines on the Stretch-out
- Step 9
Connect all the points on the stretch-out to form the gore pattern. Step10. Add for a lap on one end or the other. Use your center punch to mark where the bead and ccccrimp will start and terminate (usually the 4 points). Figure 1 re not to scale,
