Section 72: Cone with a 90 Degree Square Run-out and a 45 Degree Round Run-out

  • Extend O.D.I. lines up so that the Apex is at the exact center of the two circles For the Square Layout, divide the elevation square into three equal parts and extend those division lines toward the center of the cone; label as shown Where the bottom of the square intersects the cone, extend a 90 degree vertical line-up to the horizontal cross-hair line of the circle.

Procedure

  1. Step 1

    Draw a Plan and side Elevation View of the fitting. Extend O.D.I. lines up so that the Apex is at the exact center of the two circles

  2. Step 2

    For the Square Layout, divide the elevation square into three equal parts and extend those division lines toward the center of the cone; label as shown

  3. Step 3

    Where the bottom of the square intersects the cone, extend a 90 degree vertical line-up to the horizontal cross-hair line of the circle. Divide from that point to the inner circle into four equal parts and label

  4. Step 4

    Extend Line A from the Square Run-out to the Center Line of both Elevation and Plan Views

  5. Step 5

    On the Plan View set your dividers from the Apex to Point A and swing an arc to Line A. Do the same for Lines B, C and D

  6. Step 6

    Draw 90 degree lines down to the corresponding lettered lines on the elevation view. This will give you the square going into the cone

  7. Step 7

    For the 45 degree run-out, draw a semi-circle at the end of the 45 degree run-out and trisect the semi-circle into six equal parts and label. Draw parallel lines from the trisected points toward the Center Line of the cone

  8. Step 8

    Where Line 1 enters the cone, draw a horizontal line to the Center Line of the cone and using this point as an Apex, swing two quarter circle arcs. The radius of one arc will be the radius of the run-out and the other will be from the Apex to where Line 1 enters the cone

  9. Step 9

    Trisect the smaller quarter circle and draw horizontal lines from the Center Line of the cone through the trisected points of the quarter circle to points on the large quarter circle

  10. Step 10

    From these points on the larger quarter circle, draw 90 degree lines to the radius line of the quarter circle arcs. Extend these lines parallel to the O.D.I. line to the Base

  11. Step 11

    Place dots where they intersect with the lines from the Run-out as shown. Connect these points to obtain the layout for the Run-out

  12. Step 12

    For the hole layout, using the Apex and the dots from corresponding numbered points from Stepl 1, swing arcs as shown in

  13. Step 13

    From the semi-circle on the run-out, transfer measurements from the diameter line to corresponding numbered points on the arc to the lines of the layout. Mark where they intersect and connect all the points to obtain the cut-out for the hole

  14. Step 14

    For the square cut-out of the cone, swing arcs from where Lines A, B, C, and D intersect the outside diameter line of the cone. The lengths of Lines A, B, C and D are determined by measuring from the Plan View, going from Points A, B, C and D to Line A and transferring these measurements to the corresponding lines of the cone layout.
