Section 65: Six Division Method for Orange-peel Gores

Required Information

  • Diameter of the tank

Formulas and Measurements

  • Divide the radius and the height into six equal parts and label Join like-numbers to form curve of the tank top; 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc Divide the tank top curve into six equal parts and extend lines to the Base Line, and label those points as shown To find the central angle, divide the number of gores required into 360 degrees and then divide the central angle in half.

Procedure

  1. Step 1

    Divide the radius and the height into six equal parts and label

  2. Step 2

    Join like-numbers to form curve of the tank top; 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc

  3. Step 3

    Divide the tank top curve into six equal parts and extend lines to the Base Line, and label those points as shown

  4. Step 4

    To find the central angle, divide the number of gores required into 360 degrees and then divide the central angle in half. Place this measurement on Line 1 as shown

  5. Step 5

    Add a 1/2" bead and ccccrimp allowance to the Base

  6. Step 6

    For the Stretch-out, draw a horizontal line and use the division measurement from

  7. Step 7

    Take the measurements from the bead and ccccrimp line to the central angle line and transfer to the corresponding numbered lines of the Stretch-out.
