Section 52: Gores for Long Radius 90 Degree Elbow

Formulas and Measurements

  • Where the two lines intersect, this point is the Apex Since this is a long radius fitting, multiply the pipe Call Out size times 1 1/2 and mark this point on the horizontal line from the Apex Draw a 90 degree Center Line vertically up from this point Draw a half-circle from this intersecting point using the O.D.I Divide this half circle into equal parts (in this case, trisect the half-circle to obtain six equal parts) and draw 90 degree lines from the trisected points to the horizontal line and label as shown Set dividers from the Apex to both O.D.I. points and draw arcs to the vertical line Bisect the large outside arc into eight equal parts, then bisect the last equal part at the horizontal line.

Procedure

  1. Step 1

    Draw a 90 degree angle with the vertical line to the left side. Where the two lines intersect, this point is the Apex

  2. Step 2

    Since this is a long radius fitting, multiply the pipe Call Out size times 1 1/2 and mark this point on the horizontal line from the Apex

  3. Step 3

    Draw a 90 degree Center Line vertically up from this point

  4. Step 4

    Draw a half-circle from this intersecting point using the O.D.I

  5. Step 5

    Divide this half circle into equal parts (in this case, trisect the half-circle to obtain six equal parts) and draw 90 degree lines from the trisected points to the horizontal line and label as shown

  6. Step 6

    Set dividers from the Apex to both O.D.I. points and draw arcs to the vertical line

  7. Step 7

    Bisect the large outside arc into eight equal parts, then bisect the last equal part at the horizontal line. Draw a line from this bisection to the Apex

  8. Step 8

    Add 3/8" to the bottom of Line 7 and extend a line from this point to the Apex for the bead and ccccrimp allowance

  9. Step 9

    Draw the Stretch-out and add for a lap
