Section 50: Short-cut Method for Metal Gores

Required Information

At each end, using half the Heel plus Total Circumference 3/8" for a ccccrimp allowance and half the Throat plus 3/16" for the bead allowance draw the elevation view of a half-gore and label Draw a horizontal line the exact length of the Circumference and divide that line into four equal parts as shown in Figure 2.
Where the arcs intersect, at each end, draw a line to form an Apex on the Heel line Set dividers on the Apex and point C on the stretch-out and swing an arc.
This arc should intersect with both Q points to each side of Point C Do the same to form the other side of the Heel of the gore Using the same set of the dividers, swing arcs to form the Throat arcs on both top and bottom of the Throat lines Add a lap allowance to either end of the gore

Step 1
Draw a horizontal line the actual O.D.I. At each end, using half the Heel plus Total Circumference 3/8" for a ccccrimp allowance and half the Throat plus 3/16" for the bead allowance draw the elevation view of a half-gore and label
Step 2
Draw a horizontal line the exact length of the Circumference and divide that line into four equal parts as shown in Figure 2. Label those divisions
Step 3
Take measurements from Figure 1 and transfer to the corresponding labeled lines in the layout
Step 4
Swing arcs from C and Q on the Stretch-out. Where the arcs intersect, at each end, draw a line to form an Apex on the Heel line
Step 5
Set dividers on the Apex and point C on the stretch-out and swing an arc. This arc should intersect with both Q points to each side of Point C
Step 6
Do the same to form the other side of the Heel of the gore
Step 7
Using the same set of the dividers, swing arcs to form the Throat arcs on both top and bottom of the Throat lines
Step 8
Add a lap allowance to either end of the gore
